Thus, studying psychology is morally and intellectually improving. Psychology is so all encompassing as a field of study that it makes a person's mind more flexible. In psychology classes, a student must learn about analysis from a qualitative, even literary approach, as encompassed in the words of Sigmund Freud and William James. In other psychology classes, a student must understand how to interpret an Excel spreadsheet used in a research study to prove the efficacy of a particular antidepressant drug. Or, he or she must understand a more scientific and neurological approach to the human brain than more humanistic approaches to psychology might suggest in other classes. All of these different approaches are integral to modern psychology. A psychology major must be fluent in the liberal arts, the social sciences, and the natural sciences, and so he or she will be able to apply many approaches to solving problems in the workforce.

By studying psychology, I have more critical insight into why I feel the way I do on a daily basis, and how and why others think, believe, and act differently from myself. The methods I have learned to study humanity will make me better able to compute numbers, to read a report quickly and accurately, and to think creatively when I approach workplace projects that encompass a variety of disciplines. These analytical methods will also enable me to get along better with my colleagues, as I analyze their quirks and biases. Perhaps most importantly, by living such an examined life, facilitated by my study of psychology, everything I do in this world seem more meaningful, and I will not simply be relegated to staring at false images and thinking false ideas about why people behave they way they do, images that are projections of my own selfish assumptions, with no basis in reality.
